Oh, yes. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

First of all, most things that were cool in the 90′s would not be cool in the present time. Sure, these stupid kids nowadays are wearing pastel colors and some of them are even trying to bring back the box hair styles. But, seriously. That does not make it cool again. And, you know why? It’s because the people who did think it was cool back then no longer think they are cool.

This writer has a SNES hooked up to a large LCD-screen in the living room. That’s because I’m a leading authority to what has and has not retain its cool. With that being said, MTV or Mike Judge should do away with their plans to bring Beavis and Butt-Head back to the air. They simply do not know the error of their ways.

First of all, Beavis and Butt-Head is from my generation. If you don’t remember Liquid Television on MTV, then I’m not sure if you qualify in relating with anything I have to write in this post. You might as well click back and watch Beavis and Butt-Head when it debuts on the sleazy, reality-TV cesspool that is MTV. I liked MTV when it was just a colorfully rebellious cesspool. It was great. So was Beavis and Butt-Head. Now, there are going to bastardize the bastards.

If the new version of Beavis and Butt-Head were about these guys coming of age and living life how only they would in their early thirties or something, I would understand. If you were to throw them through some kind of yuppy time warp, with the same clothes they were wearing (the Metallica and AC/DC shirts and the shorts. Oh, those shorts were horrible), then the show would be doomed to be in the same category as other shows that should have been either long-dead or stayed dead. The Simpsons are no longer funny and haven’t been for the last 12 years. They should die an honorable death by being dragged into the woods and shot through the temple. Arrested Development was always a sucky show. But, would those hipsters still like the show after it would’ve jumped the shark about 8 times? Family Guy was funny again after it returned for about a minute then it turned into what it is now: a horrible example of how dumb we have become as a collective, since we would laugh at just about now.

Beavis and Butthead episodes were only about 8 minutes long and it used music videos to ridicule as filler. When’s the last time you watched a music video on MTV? Everyone knows that you only watch music videos on YouTube now. They would have nothing to go on and would have to depend on full-length (15 min) episodes to have a show now. Also, no one talks like them anymore. Most of the kids in their music scene are currently too emo to giggle in between everything they say or giggle at all. Anyway, their music scene, which were acts like Gwar and Danzig are too Guitar Heroed out to be anything other than what they’d consider to be sold out. Beavis and Butthead was very much about rock and a stupid brand of badassness. They would probably think those dudes over at Jackass are cool but that’s about it. Everything around them now would be gay (because it is). They won’t care about My Life As Liz and Teen Moms. They would hope that every kid on Made would fail. Because that is what they would laugh at.

So, let’s do us all a favor and hope that MTV woke up from their delusion that bringing back Beavis and Butt-Head would be a great idea for current viewers. Since 1984, I think, everyone, say, 45 and younger had a phase when MTV was very relatable to their life at the time. Yo! MTV Raps and Headbanger’s Ball isn’t on the air anymore because music itself has changed. Eventually, everyone outgrows MTV. That includes that many programs that lived and died on that network. Beavis and Butt-Head are outdated. And, that’s actually a good thing.

  1. BCC says:

What made MTV cool along with Beavis and Butthead when I was a kid was the fact that kids our age weren’t allowed to watch MTV due to the racy content in the Music Video’s and shows. Nowadays, the kids that are the age that I was when I had to sneak and watch MTV are the stars of it….. all knocked up and dysfunctional.
